This Christmas Star Twisted Bread is a sweet and sticky bread that is so soft it can be pulled apart. I love opening the oven door to the aroma of that freshly baked bread smell. It fills throughout the entire home.
This recipe may look tricky, but it’s worth the intricate details to create this artistic piece. Once you have tried it, your skills will certainly have earned you the ‘Great Baker’ title!
To make Christmas Star Twisted Bread, you will need the following ingredients:So, how to make Christmas Star Twisted Bread?
Dissolve yeast in warm water until foamy and bubbling.
In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, butter, sugar and salt together to combine.
Add yeast and 3 cups flour and beat on medium speed for 1 minute, until smooth. Add remaining flour and stir through until just combined to a soft dough.
Roll out onto a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm place for about an hour to rise and double in volume.
Once risen, punch down to release air. Roll out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 4 portions. Roll 1 of the portions out, into a 12-inch circle and place on a parchment paper.
Spread with ⅓ jam over the entire dough, ½-inch from the edge. Repeat with remaining dough portions and jam, layering them on top of each other, ending with final portion of dough on top.
Place a 2½-inch round cutter or bowl on top of the dough, in the center (do not press down). With a sharp knife, slice 16 evenly spaced cuts from round cutter to the edge of dough, forming a star-like shape. Remove cutter from the center and take 2 adjacent strips, rotating twice outward and pinch ends together. Repeat with remaining strips.
Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for about 30 minutes until almost doubled in volume.
Preheat oven to 375 °F.
Bake for 18-22 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven.
Brush with melted butter, avoiding any areas where jam has dripped through.
Cool completely on a wire rack before dusting with confectioners’ sugar and serving.
