This Fresh Cherry Cake is a simple and beautiful vanilla oven baked cake with fresh cherries and cherry juices drizzled on top. I use a typical vanilla cake base which you can add some extra vanilla extract to, for a hint of more flavor.

Preheat oven and prepare baking pan

Preheat oven to 375 °F and grease a deep 9x13-inch baking pan.

Combine dry ingredients

In a bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt together.

Combine butter and sugar

In a separate bowl, with an electric mixer, beat 1 cup sugar and butter together, for about 4-5 minutes until light and fluffy.

Add milk and vanilla extract

Add the milk and vanilla extract and stir to mix.

Combine wet and dry ingredients

Combine the flour and butter mixture; mix for 2-3 minutes until well blended and thick.

Prepare cake

Pour batter into prepared baking dish and arrange the fresh cherries on top with drizzles of cherry juice for decoration. Top with sprinkles of ½ cup sugar.

Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
