The Italian Sausage Orzo is another one of my one pot wonder, delicious dinners! Crumbled, Italian turkey sausages added to orzo pasta and dressed up with sweet onions, minced garlic, plum tomatoes, roasted sweet red pepper, salt, pepper and crushed red pepper flakes. This dish has spice and flavor that when garnished with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese achieves an Italian’s delight!

To make Italian Sausage Orzo, you will need the following ingredients:

Steps to make Italian Sausage Orzo

In a large saucepan, bring 8 cups of water and 3 teaspoons of bouillon to a boil and stir in 1½ cup of uncooked orzo.

Cook over boiling heat for about 8-10 minutes until al dente then drain and reserve ¾ cup of the cooking liquid.

3

Cook sausage mix

10

Lightly spray a large skillet with cooking spray and over medium heat, add 1 package of Italian sausages, crumbling into pieces as you add, along with ½ cup of chopped sweet onion and 2 cloves of minced garlic. Cook for about 6-8 minutes until sausage is no longer pink.

4

Add vegetables and seasoning

5

Add 6 tomatoes, ½ cup of roasted and chopped sweet red pepper, ⅛ teaspoon of salt, ⅛ teaspoon of pepper, ⅛ teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes and cooked orzo. Stir to mix through the cook on medium-low heat until heated through. If needed, add some of the reserved cooking liquid to moisten.

I'd recommend having this with a side of cheesy garlic bread or plain garlic bread, it goes really well together.

Careful with the red pepper flakes, I put half of what's stated and it was still kinda spicy so beware.
