This Sheet Pan Pizza Dough is a really great recipe when you need to feed a crowd. You won’t be surprised to hear that this dough gets its name because it is cooked in a sheet pan! It means that the pizza does not have a thin base, but that doesn’t make it any less delicious!
It is a pretty standard pizza dough recipe. Start by combining the ingredients and bringing the dough together in a ball. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes and leave to proof. Transfer the dough to a greased sheet pan and leave to rest for between 30 minutes and two hours. The longer the dough proofs at this stage, the more it will puff up, and the fluffier your finished pizza crust will be. Top with your favorite toppings and transfer to a hot oven to bake.
To make the Sheet Pan Pizza Dough, you will need the following ingredients:
Combine 4 cups of flour with 2 teaspoons of fine sea salt, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of instant dry yeast in a large bowl using a wooden spoon. Pour in 1⅔ cups warm water and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix until there is no more dry flour in the bottom of the bowl.
Transfer the dough to a lightly dusted work surface. Knead for about 5 minutes until the dough comes together in a ball but doesn’t stick to your hands.
Drizzle a large mixing bowl with 1 tablespoon of oil and place the dough in the bowl. Turn it over a few times to coat in oil. Cover the bowl tightly with a lid or plastic wrap. Leave for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
Grease a 13 x 18-inch rimmed baking sheet with 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil.
Transfer the dough to the greased pan. Press it out with your fingers until it meets the edges and corners of the pan. The dough might shrink back. If so, leave it to rest for 10-15 minutes before trying again.
Cover the whole pan with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and leave it to rest for 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 500 °F.
Top the dough with sauce, cheese and a selection of your favorite toppings.
Place in the heated oven to bake for 15 minutes until the bottom of the crust is crisp and golden brown.
Leave to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
