I came up with this Sourdough Discard Crackers recipe after posting my Sourdough Starter here recently. I know that a lot of people have started using sourdough starter, and a few of you got in touch though to say that you felt bad discarding half of the starter each day and you didn’t know what to do with the excess! So, I challenge you to try making these crackers.
Start by melting butter and letting it cool down. Add the sourdough discard, dried herbs and salt to the melted butter. Mix thoroughly before spreading the mixture in a thin, even layer on parchment paper. Sprinkle the crackers with salt and bake for about an hour until golden brown and crisp.
To make the Sourdough Discard Crackers, you will need the following ingredients:
Preheat the oven to 325 °F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place 2 tablespoons of melted butter in a mixing bowl and let it cool.
Add ¾ cup of sourdough discard, 2 teaspoons of dried herbs and ½ a teaspoon of salt to the bowl with the melted butter. Mix thoroughly until fully combined.
Transfer the cracker mixture to the parchment lined baking sheet and use a spatula to spread it into a thin, even layer.
Sprinkle half a teaspoon of salt on top of the layer.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and use a sharp knife to score the crackers.
Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for an 35-40 minutes more, until the crackers are golden brown.
Let the baked mixture cool completely before breaking into crackers.
Serve with hummus, cheese or your favorite dip and enjoy!
