This Tofu with Spicy Garlic Sauce is a weeknight winner, rich and salty-spicy. Warm tofu gets a flavor boost from a mix of sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, hot red pepper flakes, scallions, and toasted sesame seeds. I like mine with broiled broccoli for a speedy and satisfying meal. If you don’t have broccoli, you can easily swap it out for other green vegetables like asparagus or bok choy.
With only a few steps and a short ingredient list, this dish is so simple and barely requires a recipe. First, simmer tofu in water. Then make a spicy garlic sauce. Finally, pour the sauce over the warm tofu. Serve right away with green veggies of choice. Enjoy!
To make the Tofu with Spicy Garlic Sauce, you will need the following ingredients:
Cut 1 block of tofu in half and place both halves in a shallow saucepan. Cover with cold water and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Once at a simmer, reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, for 20 minutes.
In the meantime, prepare spicy garlic sauce. In a small bowl, add 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce, 1 tablespoon Asian sesame oil, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, ¼ cup thinly sliced scallions, 2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon coarse Korean hot red-pepper flakes, ½ teaspoon brown sugar, and 1 pinch salt and stir to combine.
Just before serving, gently lift the tofu from the saucepan with a large slotted spatula and drain on a towel. Then transfer the blocks of tofu to shallow bowls. Spoon the prepared spicy garlic sauce over the tofu.
Serve right away. Enjoy!
