I remember my first experience with puff pastry cups. It was a chilly winter night at a friend’s dinner party. The talk was fun, and the room felt cozy. Then our host brought out a tray of cute little pastry cups filled with spiced apples. As we took our first bites, the room became quiet. The crispy, buttery layers of pastry mixed perfectly with the soft, warm apple filling. It was a magical moment. Right then, I knew I had to find that recipe and try it at home.
Although these apple pie cups may not seem like a healthy treat, you can make them better for you. For example:
If you are following a plant-based diet, you can easily make these vegan. Use plant-based butter and vegan puff pastry. You can even replace sugar in the filling with maple syrup, giving a nice flavor boost. These little changes increase nutrition without losing taste. This recipe is wonderful because it’s flexible – you can adapt it to fit different diets and tastes.
Whether you are a skilled baker or starting your journey in the kitchen, these mini apple pies are sure to become a favorite. They are simple for beginners, yet striking enough to impress at gatherings. Why not try making them? You may discover they become your favorite dessert for creating sweet moments with loved ones.
To make Apple Pie Cups with Puff Pastry, you will need the following ingredients:
Preheat the oven to 350 °F. Lightly spray a muffin pan with cooking spray.
Cut each sheet of puff pastry into nine equal squares.
Place each piece of pastry into one of the muffin cups and press down. Transfer the muffin pan to the oven and bake the pastry cups for 10 minutes.
Once the pastry cups start to brown, remove the pan from the oven and allow to rest for five minutes.
Place 6 cubed apples and the juice of one lemon in a medium saucepan with ¼ cup of water. Heat until the mixture starts to simmer. Cook for eight minutes.
Combine ⅔ cup sugar with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, ½ a teaspoon of allspice, ¼ teaspoon of ginger, ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg, and ¼ teaspoon salt in a small bowl. Add the mixture to the apples and stir to combine. Simmer for a further two minutes before removing from heat. Leave to cool slightly.
Using a spoon, press down the center of each baked pastry cup.
Fill each cup with the apple filling.
Return the muffin pan to the oven and bake for 5 - 10 minutes.
Leave the apple pie cups cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack to cool.
Serve with ice cream, whipped cream or custard.
