Apple Pie (in the apple)

Recipe Description

These Apple Pie (in the apple) treats are so much fun to bake and eat! They look so pretty with their pastry lids and there’s no messing about with individual baking dishes – the pie is cooked IN the apple!

Start by making a simple pastry dough in the food processor. While the pastry is resting, hollow out some apples and save the pulp.

To make Apple Pie (in the apple), you will need the following ingredients:

Ingredients for Apple Pie (in the apple)

Steps to make

  1. 1

    Make pastry for lids

    5 min
Step 1 - Apple Pie (in the apple)Step 1 - Apple Pie (in the apple)

Place the flours, corn starch, sugar, butter, egg, salt and baking powder in a food processor. Mix until it forms a ball. If necessary, add a few drops of cold water. Don't over mix.

  2. 2

    Chill

    30 min
Step 2 - Apple Pie (in the apple)

Place the pastry in the refrigerator to chill for 30 minutes.

  3. 3

  4. 4

    Make filling

    6 min
Step 4 - Apple Pie (in the apple)

Using a sharp knife and a spoon, remove the centre of the apples to form bowls. Peel and chop the tops as well as the removed pulp and set it to one side in a small bowl.

  5. 5

    Mix pulp with lemon juice

    1 min
Step 5 - Apple Pie (in the apple)

To stop the apples from getting dark, mix the pulp with lemon juice.

  6. 6

    Heat the oven

    5 min
Step 6 - Apple Pie (in the apple)

Preheat the oven to 370 °F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  7. 7

    Roll out the dough

    5 min
Step 7 - Apple Pie (in the apple)

When the dough has chilled, roll it into a rectangle. Cut out 6 lids - I use a flower-shaped cutter for this. Be sure to make some holes to release vapor during baking.

  8. 8

Add the filling to the apples

Place a lid carefully on each apple but don't press it down too hard.

  10. 10

    Bake

Step 10 - Apple Pie (in the apple)

Bake in the oven until the lids are light golden brown, about 40 minutes.
