These Chocolate Hazelnut Cake Balls are a must-try for any chocolate lover this Valentine’s Day. Bite-sized cake balls made of crumbled chocolate cake mixed with chocolate hazelnut spread and chopped hazelnuts, and dipped in dark chocolate. Yes, you need only four ingredients!
The process is not very difficult. You will just need to bake and cool a cake ahead of time, then crumble and mix it with a nut spread. To make rolling cake balls easier, I use food-safe gloves. They keep my hands clean and speed up the process. Once you learn how to make these easy cake balls, you will always have an excellent solution for make-ahead sweets. Enjoy!
To make the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake Balls, you will need the following ingredients:
In a large bowl, use your hand to crumble the chocolate cake into fine crumbs.
Add ½ cup chocolate hazelnut spread and ½ cup chopped hazelnuts to cake crumbs. Mix with your hands until combined. If the mixture is too dry, add some more chocolate hazelnut spread.
Form the cake mixture into tablespoon-sized balls and roll them between hands to make them round. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
After the balls are chilled, melt 8 ounces dark chocolate over a double boiler.
Using a fork, dip cake balls into the chocolate one at a time, shake off any excess. Place coated cake balls back on the baking sheet. Leave to dry and harden.
Re-warm the chocolate coating if necessary. Drizzle the cake balls with chocolate and top with chopped hazelnuts. Refrigerate until set for about 15 minutes.
Serve or store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Skip the box of chocolate and impress your sweetheart with these hand-crafted Chocolate Hazelnut Cake Balls instead! They are so delicious that it is hard to eat just one.
