This Gooseberry Apple Crumble is hands down one of my favorite summer desserts. It brings back childhood memories of visiting my grandma who always had gooseberry bushes in her garden.
To make this crumble, start by breaking down the apples and gooseberries with some of the caster sugar. When the fruit has broken down and become soft, place it in an ovenproof dish. Make crumble topping by rubbing together flour and butter until it resembles breadcrumbs and add the remaining caster sugar. Place the crumble on top of the fruit mixture and sprinkle with sugar. Bake until golden and bubbling.
To make Easy Gooseberry Apple Crumble, you will need the following ingredients:
Preheat the oven to 355 °F and lightly grease a large baking dish with butter.
Place 8 chopped apples and 150 grams of gooseberries in a saucepan with 100 grams of caster sugar. Heat until the fruit becomes soft and has broken down.
Transfer the fruit to the baking dish.
Rub together 300 grams of flour and 150 grams of butter until they resemble fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the remaining 100 grams of caster sugar.
Place the crumble topping on the fruit mixture and sprinkle with 3 tablespoons sugar.
Bake for about 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream.
