This Homemade Cheese Bread is basically put, a twisted soft bread loaf filled with twirls of garlic melted cheese and garnished with a garlic butter and fresh thyme brushed over!
Perfectly suited with any soup of your liking, garden salad or even Saturday menu brunch. Our recipe is really simple to follow and freshly baked bread is always the best treat!
To make Homemade Cheese Bread, you will need the following ingredients:
In a bowl of stand mixer, lightly whisk warm buttermilk and water, yeast, and sugar until combined, then cover and set aside for 5 minutes to activate.
Once yeast is bubbling, add the butter, egg, salt, garlic powder, and 1 cup flour. Mix on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping excess from the sides of the bowl.
Attach the dough hook and add remaining flour. Beat on medium for about 2 minutes until dough begins to come together. Continue kneading for about 2 more minutes.
Transfer to a well greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Set aside in a warm space for 1-2 hours to rise until doubled in volume.
Preheat the oven to 350 °F and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
Once risen, punch down to release excess air from the dough. Roll out onto a lightly floured surface into a 9×15-inch rectangle.
Top with shredded cheese all over, leaving ½-inch bordered edge.
Tightly roll dough upwards into a 15-inch log. Using a sharp know, cut dough in half, lengthwise, and criss-cross the two pieces, on top of one another, tightly twisting them together. Pinch edges to seal.
Transfer to prepared baking pan and tuck any remaining cheese bits into random spots in the dough. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside for 30 minutes to rise slightly.
In a mixing bowl, whisk melted butter, herbs, and garlic powder until combined then generously brush over the top of the bread.
Bake in preheated oven on the lower rack position for 45-50 minutes until golden brown on top and cooked in the center. You may cook bread covered with aluminum foil, if the top is browning too quickly.
Remove from oven and allow to cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Slice and serve. Even better when eaten warm!
