The Ho Ho Cake is the answer to the question: how can I get more Ho Hos in my life?! Based on the Hostess snack that we all know and love, the cake version is topped with that wonderfully familiar fluffy white frosting and thick chocolate ganache.
In my Ho Ho Cake recipe I advise using a pack of chocolate cake mix to bake a soft and chocolately base but you can of course make your own! Hoho cakes are getting more and more popular as a chocolate cake option and I’m not surprised! It’s rich, sweet, gooey and smothered in chocolate, what’s not to love!
To make Ho Ho Cake, you will need the following ingredients:
Mix and bake the cake as per the instructions, using a loaf pan. Leave to cool completely.
Add the flour and milk to a small saucepan and whisk together. Over a low heat, stir the mixture until it thickens. Remove from the heat and leave to one side to completely cool.
Beat the sugar, half of the margarine, and the shortening together in a bowl. Pour in the flour and milk mixture and whisk well to combine.
Spread the frosting over the cake and put in the refrigerator for an hour to set.
Whisk the remaining ingredients together in a bowl until smooth.
Take the cake out of the refrigerator and pour the chocolate ganache over the top, smoothing the surface with a spatula or palette knife. Return to the refrigerator for another hour, until fully set.
