Homemade Snickerdoodle Cookies

These soft and chewy Homemade Snickerdoodle Cookies are absolutely heavenly! For those who aren’t familiar, snickerdoodle cookies are usually made with butter, a splash of vanilla and tangy cream of tartar, before being rolled in cinnamon and sugar.

I’ve been eating these all my life so of course I had to find the perfect recipe for me to cook them myself at home! My kids really love them and it’s a fun recipe for us to make together – I just have to make sure some of the dough makes it into the oven at the end of it!

Steps to make Homemade Snickerdoodle Cookies

1

Combine the dry ingredients

1

Mix the flour, cream of tartar and baking soda together in a bowl.

2

Beat the eggs and butter

7

Using a wooden spoon or handheld mixer, cream the butter in a large bowl until it becomes pale. Use a spatula to scrape the butter from the sides of the bowl. Add the salt and 3/4 of a cup of sugar and cream together with the butter until the mixture is fluffy. Scrape the sides again before adding the eggs and beating until combined.

3

Add the dry ingredients

2

Slowly add the flour mixture a little at the time, continuing to blend in until combined.

4

Chill the dough

30

Form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator to chill for half an hour.

5

Preheat the oven and prepare trays

2

While the dough is chilling, preheat the oven to 375°F. Move the oven racks to the top and bottom of the oven. Lay parchment paper on two baking sheets.

6

Shape the cookies

10

In a small bowl, combine the rest of the sugar and cinnamon. Take one tablespoonful of the mixture at a time and roll it into a ball using your hands. Then dip each ball into the cinnamon sugar, until coated, and place on the baking tray. Leave about 2 inches between each ball.

7

Bake cookies

10

Put the cookies in the oven to bake for 8-10 minutes, until they turn a golden brown. Turn the baking trays around halfway through to ensure an even bake.
