These Puff Pastry Apple Tartlets are so simple to make and I think they look very professional. My secret to great puff pastry? Buy it in the store!!! I have never had much success when making puff pastry from scratch, so I have no problem buying frozen sheets and thawing them when I need them.
To make these tartlets, start by cutting squares from pastry sheets. As the pastry squares blind bake in the oven, prepare the apple filling and sugar-cinnamon butter. Fill each pastry with applesauce, sliced apple and brush with melted sugar-cinnamon butter. Glaze the pastry and bake until golden and puffed up. Leave to cool before sprinkling with icing sugar. Enjoy!
To make my Puff Pastry Apple Tartlets, you will need the following ingredients:
Remove 2 frozen puff pastry sheets from the freezer. Thaw at room temperature for 5-10 minutes, or until softer.
Preheat the oven to 350 °F. Line 2 baking sheets with baking paper.
Cut each pastry sheet into 4 equal squares. Fold the sides of each up to create an edge. Gently press the folded edges so that they stick. Take a fork and prick the bottom of each square.
Place the squares on the lined baking sheets and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and lightly golden. Remove the baking sheets from the oven and set to one side.
Combine 3 tablespoons of cooled melted butter with 3 tablespoons sugar and ⅓ teaspoon of cinnamon.
Peel, core and cut 4 small apples in half. Using a small sharp knife, slice each apple half thinly.
Divide the applesauce between each pastry square. Place a sliced apple half on top and brush the butter mixture over the apple.
If glazing, whisk 1 egg yolk in a small bowl. Use a pastry brush to gently glaze over the edges of the pastries for a golden finish.
Bake the tartlets in the oven for 15-20 minutes until the edges are golden and puffy and the apples have started to soften.
Remove the tarts from the oven. Leave to cool.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
