I designed these Apple Pie Bars for a traditional Jewish holiday celebration when it is a religious custom to eat apples on Rosh Hashanah for a sweet New Year. No matter if you enjoy apples dipped in honey, an apple tart or these dessert bars, apples are a must on every family table.
Inspired by an apple pie, cut into bite size bars and finished with a buttery, caramel and pecan nut topping for extra sweetness and deliciousness, you won’t regret trying these. Luckily, the recipe bakes enough servings!
To make Apple Pie Bars, you will need the following ingredients:
Preheat the oven to 350 °F and line a 9-x-13-inch pan with parchment then grease with some cooking spray.
In a mixing bowl, beat 1 cup of softened butter with ½ cup of granulated sugar with ¼ cup of brown sugar until combined with a light and fluffy texture.
Add 2½ cups of all-purpose flour and ½ teaspoon of kosher salt and mix until just combined. Transfer to the prepared baking pan and gently press with about ½-inch up the sides.
Bake the crust in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes until lightly golden.
In a large bowl, toss the slices from 6 apples with the juice from ½ a lemon, ½ cup packed brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon of kosher salt. Spread over the baked crust.
In a medium bowl, toss 1½ cup all-purpose flour with 1 cup of chopped pecans, 1 cup of packed brown sugar, and ½ teaspoon of kosher salt then stir in ¾ cup of melted butter until a coarse crumble forms. Sprinkle over the apple filling.
Return to the oven and bake for another 1 hour until the apples are softened and the crumble is golden.
Allow to cool for about 15 minutes then slice into squares and drizzle caramel sauce over for serving!
These Apple Pie Bars are a delicious treat just waiting to be baked by you. Bite-size squares with a perfect sweet, caramel and nutty combination. If you love them, let us know and tag #cookmerecipes online to be in touch.
