I love this Pasta with Pumpkin Sauce in fall. It is a delicious creamy bowl of comfort food as the evenings grow cooler and the days get shorter. I love this recipe because it uses my favorite fall taste: pumpkin spice. The addition of brown sugar ensures that this dish has the right mix of sweet and savory! 

Start by cooking pasta and adding broccoli florets for the last few minutes of cooking time. Meanwhile, cook sausage in a skillet. Once cooked, add pumpkin spice and make a sauce by adding half and half, canned pumpkin pure and brown sugar. Mix the sauce with the pasta and broccoli and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Steps to make Pasta with Pumpkin Sauce with Broccoli

Cook pasta and broccoli

Follow the package instructions to cook the pasta. Add 1½ cups of broccoli florets to the pot during the last 3 minutes of cooking. Drain and return the pasta and broccoli to the pot.

Heat oil

Heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Cook sausage

Add 8 ounces of sausage to the pan and cook it for about 4 minutes until it is no longer pink. Break up large chunks of sausage with a spoon as it cooks. Drain off any fat once cooked.

Add pumpkin spice

Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of pumpkin spice over the sausage and cook for about 1 minute while stirring.

Make sauce

Pour in 1¼ cups of half and half and add 1 can of pumpkin, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Bring to a simmer for 1 minute.

Combine broccoli and pasta with sauce

Pour the pumpkin mixture into the pasta and broccoli and toss well to combine.
