Add a little color to your day and treat your special someone to these Red Velvet Waffles! Inspired by the classic American dessert, these waffles are extra fluffy and moist and so easy to make from scratch.
To start, turn on your waffle maker and combine the dry ingredients. Combine the wet ingredients and mix until completely smooth. Then add in the red food coloring. I like to use gel food coloring because it is more concentrated and delivers a much bigger punch of color. Next, add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and fold until fully combined. Cook the waffles until golden and crispy. These waffles are amazing served with a dollop of ice cream and fresh strawberries. To top things off, drizzle the chocolate syrup over and enjoy!
To make these Red Velvet Waffles, you will need the following ingredients:
Preheat the waffle maker and brush with a little oil as required.
In a large mixing bowl, stir together 2 cups flour, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 3 teaspoons baking powder, and ¾ teaspoon salt and set aside.
In a separate bowl, beat 2 eggs with 1 ¾ cups buttermilk, ⅓ cup melted and cooled butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon vinegar until well combined.
Whisk in the red food coloring until the batter is slightly darker than the shade of red you desire, as it will lighten a little while it cooks.
Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and fold to combine well.
Ladle the manufacturer’s recommended amount of batter onto your waffle maker and cook until done. In most cases, the waffles should be done as soon as they stop steaming.
Once cooked, serve with ice cream and fresh strawberries and drizzled with chocolate syrup.
These Red Velvet Waffles make for a simple yet festive Valentine’s Day breakfast the whole family will love. Give this recipe a go and don’t forget to tag #cookmerecipes on your socials!
