Tandoori chicken is one of my favorite takeout dishes when I order food from my local Indian restaurant. Tandoori chicken is a mouth-watering dish which involves marinating chicken in a yogurt marinade. Traditionally cooked in a special clay oven called a tandoor, you can cook it on the grill to achieve a charred coating.
Start by marinating slashed chicken thighs with lemon juice, paprika and onion. Make a yogurt marinade by combining yogurt, garlic and ginger with spices. Marinate the chicken for a minimum of one hour before cooking on a grill. Serve with rice or flatbread and a fresh green salad.
To make the Tandoori chicken, you will need the following ingredients:
Combine the juice of 2 lemons with 4 teaspoons of paprika and 2 finely chopped onions in a large shallow dish.
Use a sharp knife to slash the chicken thighs. Toss them in the lemon and onion mixture and leave to marinate for about 10 minutes.
In a small bowl, combine 300 milliliters of Greek yogurt, grated ginger, 4 crushed garlic cloves, ¾ teaspoons each of garam masala and ground cumin, ½ a teaspoon of chilli powder and ¼ teaspoon of turmeric together and pour the marinade over the chicken, thoroughly mix. Cover and chill for at least one hour in the refrigerator.
Heat the grill.
Place the marinated chicken pieces on a rack over a baking tray. Brush a little oil over the chicken and cook for 8 mins on each side until cooked through and charred all over.
Serve immediately with rice or flatbreads and green salad.

Delicious, I made this for my friends and they loved it.
Nicely done I would've never thought to make something this tasty on my own thanks for sharing the recipe with us.
What is garam masala and where can I buy it?
Goes great with some blue cheese deep or just some potatoes and sourcream on the side.
Loved this I served it with baked sweet potatoes and some parmesan cheese too.
Lemon kinda makes it too zest so I narrowed it down to half a lemon instead of two large ones.
So many chicken thighs..how many people is this recipe supposed to be for?
