Relying mostly on the natural sweetness from the fruit, this recipe uses 10 tablespoons of brown sugar, which if you like you can even use raw, organic sugar to make it even healthier! I love the spice that the cinnamon brings this jam too.
To make Low Sugar Cinnamon and Plum Jam, you will need the following ingredients:
In a large pot, cook the plums, sugar and cinnamon sticks together, over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes until the fruits have softened.
Using a strainer, (not necessary to use a fine mesh one as the juice won’t drain out nicely) strain the mixture, discarding only the skins and cinnamon.
Once strained, pour the mixture back into the large pot and simmer for 40 minutes until thickened to a jam texture.
Before beginning the process, place a small saucer in the fridge or freezer. Once thickened, place a spoonful of jam onto the cold plate and leave to cool for a few seconds. Gently press into the jam, if it doesn’t run, then you’re good to go!
Portion jam into clean storage jars, leaving a 1cm space from the top, using a ladle spoon. Top with lids and seal tightly. Store in a cool, dry area.
