I love this Quince Jam recipe! It is simple to make and tastes absolutely delicious. If you’ve ever cooked with quince, you’ll know it’s like a magic ingredient. When raw, it is hard, bitter, knobbly and unappetizing. However, once cooked with sugar, the flesh changes from a pale yellow to a deep rosy color and it tastes absolutely delicious. I love quince and if you try cooking with it, I know you will too!
To sterilize jars, simply rinse out the jars, dry them, and place them in a 200 °F oven for 10 minutes without lids. Sterilize the lids by pouring boiling water over them in a large bowl. Sometimes I like to add a little bit of nutmeg, cardamom, or vanilla to spice this recipe up.
To make Quince Jam, you will need the following ingredients:
In a large pot, bring the water to a boil over high heat. Then add the quince, lemon juice and zest. Reduce the heat and simmer for about an 10 minutes until the fruit is soft.
Stir in the sugar. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat and leave to simmer for about 30-50 minutes until thickened.
Spoon or ladle the mixture into five sterilized half-pint jars, leaving ½ an inch of space at the top of each. Wipe the rim of each jar and place the lids on tight.
I love to eat this quince jam with butter on freshly toasted bread.
