These Sunkist Wings rely on one of my childhood favorites as the main ingredient – Sunkist orange soda! Chicken wings need a lot of liquid to marinate in before cooking and this marinade combines Sunkist with hot sauce.
Start by mixing wings with orange juice, oil, chili powder, salt and pepper. Bake these in the oven for 30-45 minutes. As the wings cook, make a sauce from Sunkist soda, hot sauce, sugar, butter, garlic, orange zest and red pepper flakes. Coat the cooked wings with the Sunkist sauce and serve garnished with chives.
To make Sunkist Wings, you will need the following ingredients:
Preheat the oven to 400 °F. Place a cooling rack on a baking sheet.
Mix the wings with ½ a cup of orange juice, 1 tablespoon of oil and ½ a teaspoon of chili powder. Season with salt and pepper and toss well to coat.
Place the coated wings in a single layer on the cooling rack fitted to the baking sheet. Roast in the oven for 30-45 minutes. Turn the wings halfway through the cooking time.
Mix 1 ½ cups of soda, ½ a cup of hot sauce, ¼ cup of brown sugar, ¼ cup of butter, 3 minced cloves of garlic, 1 tablespoon of orange zest and 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes together in a small saucepan. Season the sauce with salt and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Simmer the sauce uncovered, until it reduces by half, stirring occasionally.
Transfer the cooked wings to a large clean serving bowl. Toss the wings in the sauce until they are fully coated.
Serve these wings warm, garnished with freshly chopped chives.
