We’ve all heard of baked camembert cheese – that rich, buttery French dish, right? Well this Oven-Roasted Queso Fresco Cheese and Apples is a lighter take on the baked cheese idea. Queso fresco is fresh and mild Mexican cheese which is simple to make from scratch and tastes absolutely delicious when served with nuts and apples.
It’s so easy to make this baked queso too. Start by mixing apples, butter, honey, rosemary leaves and your choice of nuts in a baking dish. I’ve used pistachios, walnuts, almonds and pecans for this before and they all taste great when once the cheese is placed on top and baked until golden brown! I like to serve this dish in the center of the table with freshly baked bread.
To make Oven-Roasted Queso Fresco Cheese and Apples, you will need the following ingredients:
Preheat your oven to 450 °F.
Mix 2 sliced apples, 1 tablespoon of melted butter, 1 tablespoon of honey, a teaspoon of rosemary leaves and and ½ a cup of nuts together in an ovenproof baking dish.
Place 8 ounces of queso fresco cheese over the apples and season to taste with freshly ground pepper.
Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is warm through and starts to turn golden brown.
Place the dish in the center table and serve hot with crusty fresh bread.
This Oven-Roasted Queso Fresco Cheese and Apples is like a lighter version of baked camembert. Try it out soon - you’ll love the combination of cheese, nuts and apples. Make sure you tag #CookeMeRecipes in your instagram photos if you make this dish!
