This Pork Chops with Sautéed Apples and Caramelized Onions recipe is a really nice simple meal which isn’t too sweet but is jam packed full of flavor. One of the great things about this winter warmer is that you can have it cooked and on the table in under an hour.  

To make this pork dish, start by caramelizing onions in oil and butter and season with salt and pepper. Sauté the apples in butter until soft and browned. Remove from heat and keep warm. Next, spread a spice mixture on the pork chops and cook them in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Transfer to the oven and continue to cook through. Serve the chops with the sautéed apples and caramelized onions.

Heat oven

Preheat the oven to 400 °F.

Caramelize onions

Place 1 tablespoon of the butter and 2 tablespoons of the oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add 2 sliced onions and cook slowly while stirring occasionally, until they are soft and translucent. Continue cooking until the onions are browned. Add ½ a teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of pepper and set to one side.

Sauté apples

Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in the same skillet over medium-high heat. Add the apple wedges and cook until lightly browned on one side. Turn the wedges over and continue to cook until browned. Remove from the heat and keep warm.

Make pork marinade

Combine 1 tablespoon of coriander seed, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard and 2 tablespoons of honey in a small bowl with the remaining salt and pepper. Spread the mixture over the pork chops.

Sear pork

Heat the remaining vegetable oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the pork chops on each side for 2 minutes.

Transfer the skillet to the oven and cook for 5-7 more minutes until cooked through.

Serve

Serve warm with the caramelized onions and sautéed apples.
