Sauteed Red Cabbage is one of those side dishes that I always make without even thinking about it. There is something very wintery about the color and flavor of this dish which makes it perfect for Christmas or Thanksgiving.
It is super simple to make too. Start by sautéing onion in oil. Shred half a head of red cabbage and add it to the pan. The dish gets its flavor from vinegar, sugar, mustard seed and salt and pepper. Simple and delicious!
To make Sauteed Red Cabbage, you will need the following ingredients:
Heat the oil in a large heavy based frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and sauté for 2 minutes.
Add the red cabbage and sauté for 3-5 minutes until it is wilted.
Add the vinegar to the cabbage and mix well.
Sprinkle the sugar into the pan and mix well. Season to taste with mustard seed, salt and pepper. Reduce the heat and continue to cook for 10 more minutes.
Serve hot alongside your favorite Christmas main.
