This Lilac Shandy is beautiful to look at and has a perfect light and fresh taste with a subtle hint of alcohol to enjoy on a gorgeous summer evening.
The best part about this recipe is that I have included steps to preparing your own homemade lilac syrup, homemade lilac lemonade and a homemade lilac shandy. So you can perfect all the finer details!
To make Lilac Shandy, you will need the following ingredients:
In a saucepan, boil 2 cups of water and stir in 2 cups of granulated sugar until completely dissolved.
Add 4 cups of rinsed and cleaned florets, cover the saucepan with a lid, reduce the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the florets to steep for about 8 hours.
Strain the florets through a fine-mesh sieve and bottle the prepared syrup or use it for a Lilac Shandy.
In a large pitcher, stir 1 cup of prepared lilac syrup, 1 cup of fresh lemon juice and 2 cups of distilled water until combined. Taste and adjust to your flavor palette then refrigerate before serving or using in a lilac shandy.
In a pint glass, pour the beer of your choice until half full then add some of the prepared lilac lemonade from step 5 and stir to combine.
Garnish with a slice of lemon for serving.
