In a separate, small bowl or saucepan, melt the butter and dark chocolate in the microwave, or one a stove top over low heat. Stir well to not solidify.

Transfer the melted butter and chocolate to a larger mixing bowl and add granulated sugar. Using an electric mixer, beat ingredients on medium-high speed for a few minutes until light in color.

Add eggs and vanilla extract

With the motor still running, add the eggs and vanilla extract. Beat to combine.

Add dry ingredients and milk, alternating between the two to bring the mixture to a chocolate batter.
