- 1 ½ lbs Potatoesabout 3 medium size

- 2-3 Green chilior ½ green bell pepper

For braising liquid:
- 3 tbsp Soy sauceor 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tbsp gochujang
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Chinese rice wineor mirin optional
- 1 tbsp Corn syrupor oilgodang or use 1 tbsp extra sugar
- 1 tsp Garlicminced
- pinch Black pepper
- ¾ cup Water
To serve:
- 1 tsp Sesame oil
- ½ tsp Sesame seedsroasted
Korean Braised Potatoes – Gamja Jorim
These Korean Braised Potatoes – Gamja Jorim are one of my favorite side dishes. This recipe is so versatile. It can be made as directed or simply with just potatoes. You can use many other vegetables of your choice, such as red/orange bell pepper, scallions, garlic cloves, or mushrooms.
To make this delicious potato side dish, start by sauteing potatoes for a few minutes. Add braising liquid and bring to a boil. Add carrot pieces and simmer until the potatoes are almost cooked through – they should be firm, not mushy. Add green peppers and onion and boil until the sauce is reduced and slightly thickened. The potatoes will continue to soak up the sauce even after being cooked. Mix in sesame oil and serve garnished with sesame seeds.
