Mulled Uzvar – Dried Fruit Compote

Recipe Description

This Mulled Uzvar – Dried Fruit Compote is a traditional non-alcoholic Ukrainian Christmas beverage. Made with sun-dried fruits and sweetened with warming honey, this delicious homemade drink is spiced with cloves and flavored with poppy seeds. Sweet, fruity, and a little smoky, it’s a traditional part of Christmas dinner in Ukraine. Typically, it is served chilled alongside traditional desserts like scuffles, aka Ukrainian cinnamon cookies, and kutia.

This festive holiday mulled uzvar recipe is so easy to make with only a handful of ingredients. The mix of smoked pears, prunes, apricots, and apples is slowly simmered until the fruits are softened and the flavors are combined. Once ready, remove the fruit compote from heat and add the cloves and poppy seeds. Let cool for at least 20 minutes before adding the honey. Cool completely and enjoy.
