Apple Cinnamon Scones

These delicious fresh Apple Cinnamon Scones with sweet vanilla glaze are super easy to make! Thick and buttery, with soft, flaky centers, these apple scones make for a great breakfast treat or snack. Using tart apples to balance the sweetness of the glaze makes the perfect combination.

To start, whisk together the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Then cut in the cold butter. In a separate bowl, combine the wet ingredients. Next, pour the wet ingredients over the flour mixture and gently mix just until the dry ingredients are moistened. Fold in the apples. Now, shape the dough into a 1-inch thick disc and cut it into 8 equal wedges. Briefly freeze the scones while the oven heats. Finally, bake the apple scones for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly golden brown. As the scones cool, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. And now we glaze! Drizzle the vanilla glaze over the scones, and enjoy!

Steps to make Apple Cinnamon Scones

1

Mix dry ingredients

1

In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg, ½ teaspoon salt, and ⅓ cup granulated sugar.

2

Add butter

2

Cut in 6 tablespoons cold cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3

Combine wet ingredients

1

In a separate bowl, whisk together ½ cup heavy whipping cream, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until well combined.

4

Combine wet and dry ingredients

1

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until the dry ingredients are moistened; the dough will seem a little crumbly.

5

Add apples

1

Gently mix in 1 cup chopped apples.

6

Shape dough and cut into scones

2

Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured working surface and knead once or twice. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 8 equal wedges.

7

Freeze briefly

15

Place the scones on a floured plate or small parchment-lined baking sheet and brush them with a little bit of heavy whipping cream. Transfer to the freezer for 15 minutes.

8

Heat oven and prepare a baking sheet

Preheat the oven to 400 °F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

9

Bake

20

Arrange the scones 2-3 inches apart on the parchment-lined large baking sheet and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown around the edges and lightly browned on top. Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool.

10

1

In a bowl, whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract until fully combined. If the glaze seems too thick, mix in a little extra milk.
