Ingredients

3½ cups (430 g) All-purpose flour bleached, if possible
½ cup (100 g) Granulated sugar
2 tbsp (6 g) Instant espresso powder
1½ tbsp (16 g) Baking powder
¾ tsp Kosher Salt
2 cups Heavy cream plus more for brushing
4 ounces Dark chocolate finely chopped, or ½ cup chocolate chips
Raw sugar or coarse , for sprinkling

Don’t these Espresso Chocolate Chip Scones just sound absolutely delicious? A simple dough recipe that makes the best, soft, dense and fluffy scones. Filled with little, finely chopped, dark chocolate bits complementing the touch of espresso flavor so well.

Steps to make Espresso Chocolate Chip Scones

Preheat oven

Preheat the oven to 400 °F and line 2 baking sheets with baking parchment paper or mats.

Combine dry ingredients

In a mixing bowl, whisk 3½ cups of flour, ½ cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of espresso powder, 1½ tablespoons of baking powder and ¾ teaspoons of kosher salt.

Add cream

Add 2¼ cups of cream and stir to mix through until combined and moist.

Add chocolate chips

Fold in 4 ounces of finely chopped dark chocolate bits.

Knead

Knead a few times until dough comes together in a loose ball.

Prepare scones

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and shape into 4 equal balls. Shape each ball into circles about 1-inch thick then cut each circle into 6 equal wedges. Transfer to the lined baking sheets, about 1-2-inches spaced out.

Brush

Brush scones with remaining heavy cream and sprinkle with loads of raw sugar.

Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes until the bases are lightly browned.

Serve

Cool for a few minutes before serving at tea time! Enjoy!

Since I have kids I didn't want to add the espresso powder instead I replaced it with some cinnamon about 1 tsp and coco 1tbsp.
