If you are scared of making homemade bread, this Cheddar Cheese Quick Bread recipe is for you! It’s easy and fast to make and requires no yeast and no rising time. Cheesy and flavorful, buttery and tender, this is a true crowd-pleaser. I like to add a pinch of cayenne and some green onions to the batter for a pop of color and flavor. Perfect for brunch, picnic, or another casual get-together with friends and family.  

First, preheat the oven and grease a loaf pan. Then combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl and cut in the butter. Stir in the cheese and finely chopped green onion. Chef note: Use freshly shredded cheese instead of store-bought. This will yield the best flavor and melting. Now, the wet ingredients. Whisk the eggs in another bowl until foamy, then add the milk and sugar. Finally, add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix to just gently combine. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing.

Steps to make Cheddar Cheese Quick Bread

Preheat oven and prepare loaf pan

Preheat the oven to 350 °F, and butter an 8x4-inch loaf pan.

Combine dry ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, 4 teaspoons baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper.

Add butter

Use a pastry cutter or a fork to cut in ¼ cup cold butter.

Add cheese and onion

Stir in 1 cup shredded Cheddar, 2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese, and 1 finely chopped green onion.

Whisk eggs

In another bowl, whisk 2 eggs until foamy.

Add milk and sugar

Add 1 cup milk and 3 tablespoons sugar and whisk to combine.

Combine dry and wet ingredients

Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir just until moistened. Don't overmix.

Pour batter into loaf pan

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.

Bake the cheese bread for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and leave for 10 minutes to cool before removing it from the pan.
