Meatball Mummies

Meatball Mummies first made an appearance in my Halloween kitchen 3 years ago and they haven’t left since. They are pretty grotesque looking (as Halloween treats should be, right?) yet they taste delicious! The kids love them and they are super easy to make.

I use frozen meatballs, puff pastry dough, tinned sliced olives and marinara sauce for this recipe. I simply wrap each meatball with strops of dough. I stick olive slices to each ball using marinara sauce. These become the mummy’s eyes. Then I bake them in the oven and serve them warm with marinara sauce!

So, how to make Meatball Mummies?

Steps to make Meatball Mummies

Heat the oven and prepare a baking sheet

Preheat the oven to 350 °F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out the dough sheet

Roll out the dough sheet on a lightly floured work surface.

Cut the dough sheet into strips

Cut the dough sheet into thin strips (about ¼ inch), lengthwise.

Wrap the meatballs with dough

Take one of the meatballs and wrap with a dough strip. Place it on the baking sheet. Repeat using all the meatballs and dough.

Decorate with olive slices

Using marinara sauce, stick two olive slices to each ball to make the mummy eyes. Repeat until each meatball has eyes

Bake

Place the baking sheet in the oven for 15-20 minutes until the dough has browned and the meatballs are cooked through.

Serve

Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping!
