Homemade Gluten-Free Corn Tortilla

Share

I love to make this Homemade Gluten-Free Corn Tortilla recipe because not only does it give me an opportunity to use my tortilla press, but it makes delicious and naturally gluten free tortillas. These tortillas have become my go-to when I am making tacos now as they have an authentic taste and texture that I think the wheat tortillas lack.

Only three ingredients are needed to make these tortillas – masa harina corn flour, salt and water. Masa harina is dehydrated corn dough which is used to make tortillas, tamales and other corn based Mexican food.

To make Homemade Gluten-Free Corn Tortilla, you will need the following ingredients:

So, how do you make Homemade Gluten-Free Corn Tortilla?

Steps to make Homemade Gluten-Free Corn Tortilla

1

Make the dough

10

Place the masa harina and salt in a large mixing bowl. Start pouring in about 1 cup of the hot water and mix with the flour and salt using a large spoon or your hand. Gradually add more water, about 1 tablespoon at a time until a soft ball of dough that is soft and pliable forms.

2

Shape the dough into small balls

10

Divide the dough ball into 12-16 equal pieces and roll into small balls. Cover with a damp towel.

3

Flatten each dough ball into a tortilla

10

Using a tortilla press or a rolling pin, roll the dough into flat tortillas.

4

Heat a skillet

5

Place a cast iron griddle or heavy-based skillet over medium heat until warm.

5

Cook the tortillas

20

Cook the tortillas one at a time by placing each one on the hot pan. After about 1 minute when the tortilla just begins to brown, flip it to cook the other side.

6

Keep the cooked tortillas warm

2

Pile the cooked tortillas into a stack and wrap them in a towel or place them in a tortilla bowl where they will stay warm until serving.

7

Serve

Serve the tacos with your favorite fillings. I love to serve these with my Ground Chicken with Creamy Salsa recipe.

Normally I avoid any and all Mexican food cause my butt ends up burning due to the spicies but since I've found this website I've located so many more recipes that are Mexican and not spicy AT ALL I'm astonished and glad I can finally say yes to Mexican food.
