Experience the taste of fall with this easy Pear Bread! It is one of the most delicious ways to eat ripened pears right now. Bursting with chunks of pears, this fall quick bread is moist, tender, and flavorful. For this bread, I like using white whole-wheat flour and coconut sugar for added flavor and nutrition benefits.
While you can use any pears you have for this bread, I prefer Anjou or Barlett because they break down well when baked and have that definitive pear flavor. As for the spices, I love to use just nutmeg and vanilla for this recipe. Keeping it simple allows the subtle pear flavor to shine through. However, feel free to sub out the nutmeg if you don’t like its flavor and use whatever spices you like.
To make the Pear Bread, you will need the following ingredients:
Preheat the oven to 350 °F, and spray a 9x5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups white whole-wheat flour, ½ cup coconut sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg and stir.
Use two knives or a pastry cutter, to cut in ½ cup cold butter into dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in 2 eggs, ¼ cup buttermilk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract into the butter mixture just until moistened.
Finely dice and then fold in the pears.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 35-45 minutes until golden brown and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
Once baked, cool the pear bread for 10 minutes in the pan, then remove from the pan and cool on a wire cooling rack.
Slice and serve!
