1 cup Pears finely diced pears, ripe, about 2 pears

Experience the taste of fall with this easy Pear Bread! It is one of the most delicious ways to eat ripened pears right now. Bursting with chunks of pears, this fall quick bread is moist, tender, and flavorful. For this bread, I like using white whole-wheat flour and coconut sugar for added flavor and nutrition benefits.

While you can use any pears you have for this bread, I prefer Anjou or Barlett because they break down well when baked and have that definitive pear flavor. As for the spices, I love to use just nutmeg and vanilla for this recipe. Keeping it simple allows the subtle pear flavor to shine through. However, feel free to sub out the nutmeg if you don’t like its flavor and use whatever spices you like.

Steps to make Pear Bread

    Heat oven and prepare loaf pan

    Preheat the oven to 350 °F, and spray a 9x5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray. Set aside.

    Combine dry ingredients

    In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups white whole-wheat flour, ½ cup coconut sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg and stir.

    Add butter

    Use two knives or a pastry cutter, to cut in ½ cup cold butter into dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Add wet ingredients

    Stir in 2 eggs, ¼ cup buttermilk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract into the butter mixture just until moistened.

    Dice and add pears

    Finely dice and then fold in the pears.

    Transfer batter to loaf pan

    Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

    Bake for 35-45 minutes until golden brown and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
